Music for Games

This specialist course gives specialist insights and combines two of the four content fields Game Sound Designers and junior Audio Programmers have to be regularly involved with.

The students receive a crash course on musical parameters and dimensions, (game) music history, musical form and variation, musical organology, ludomusicology and game-related topics such as algorithmic composition, generative music making, musical stingers and adaptive music.

During the semester, students are regularly required to submit intermediary exercises on the selected topics. For the exam, students are required to present a completely fleshed-out and detailed audio brief for middle-size game project.

Graduates of this course are sufficiently knowledgeable and proficient enough in musical terminology to convey the stylistic requirements for a game production’s musical assets to a composer.
