Unless you were part of a space mission the past month, you must have heard of the new game Baldur's Gate 3, one of the biggest hits of the year!

Since its release on Steam on August 3, Baldur's Gate 3 has had a firm grip on the number one spot.

Baldur's Gate 3 is an RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. The game is developed and published by Larian Studios, a Belgian game developer with its spiritual epicentrum in Ghent and studios in Quebec, Dublin, Kuala Lumpur, Guildford and Barcelona.

Larian’s history began in Ghent 1996. It should be no surprise that since that day many DAE Alumni have been hired by Larian Studios. DAE Alumni Coordinator Kristel Balcaen took a closer look at the facts & figures of the DAE Veterans who have contributed to Larian’s highly successful Baldur’s Gate 3. Congratulations once more to everyone involved!

  • 63 DAE Veterans are listed in the credits
  • of 9 different nationalities, with an obvious majority of Belgians (53)
  • spanning 13 graduation years, from the DAE-OG 2nd graduation year in 2010 all the way up to the interns who graduated in June 2023.
  • about half of them come from the GGP major, with GD/Gamedev in second place.

Note also that, in spite of this being a AAA game, no less than 8 3D/VFX and 3 IGP graduates are listed.

They are credited for 35 different roles, of all experience levels from interns to seniors and leads. Interesting also that 4 of the Leads (Lead Character Artist, Lead DevOps, Lead Environment Artist & Lead Tools Programmer) are DAE Veterans.

Gather your party, it’s time to play!

As you embark on your epic journey through the realms of Baldur’s Gate, remember that behind every captivating character, every breathtaking landscape, and every spellbinding moment, are the hands and hearts of talented individuals who took the rich legacy of Baldur’s Gate and elevated it to new heights. To inspire and create unforgettable adventures.
