Welcome to “The FARM”…

A simulated workspace AKA a production company  “where we breed professionals”. During 12 weeks -  fulltime 4 days a week – our final year students work in THE FARM on an animated short from basic idea to finished product in teams of 4-5-6 students, depending on the scope of the project. Every week they have to present their weekly update to the supervisors, a team of 6 senior lecturers each in their own discipline (preproduction - character design – animation -  compositing – simulations – rendering – grading - sound design -…).

This experience ends with a nice portfolio piece and is a preparation/springboard for the final semester with an 18 weeks internship.
In this experiment, it is important to be a professional team player and they are forced to further develop their skills and knowledge, but this time not only individually, but also as a team. They have to communicate with their team members and plan ahead, so that they can deliver on time (even weekly).

During the project, they have to be able to identify the missing pieces of knowledge or insufficient skill levels and find a way to catch up or fix them as soon as possible. Being agile in terms of learning new skills that are imposed by the project you are working on is a very important professional attitude. Also, learning about SCRUM or another form of agile project management is an important aspect of this course.
Depending on the major you have chosen, the project can be a film or a game project.
