The goal of this course is to develop the students’ visual library and to expand and refine their visual language.
This module consists out of 3 partial courses: Visual Technologies, Art History and Film History.
Visual Technologies gives you insights on all technical elements of the production pipeline. Whether we are talking about Color depth, image sizes or compression, you should know what you are talking about.
In Art History we’ll broaden your horizons to spark your creativity with the work of classical masters and compare their compositions and color usage with contemporary art. The students will gain an insight into image as a means of communication. We will teach the student to look at the world differently.
Film History submerges you into the history starting with the very first attempts of photography, animation and the urge to create a 3D feel in a 2D flat projection. We’ll study Disney’s multiplane camera set up and look behind the scenes of the matte paintings digitally enhanced with z-depth and vfx to found out that indeed the pioneers influenced the nowadays VFX scene. Eadweard Muybridge meets the bullet time technique of the Wachowskis as well as Michel Gondry. Or as John Lasseter said: “the art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art”.
